 There is growing concern over the health and well being of Mischa Barton after friends revealed that the British born actress is 'suicidal'. Questions were first raised after photographs of the star on the morning of the Harrod's summer sale showed her looking bloated and a little worse for wear, which was blamed on a dental procedure that has allegedly left her face with considerable swelling. It was only days ago that Mischa Barton defended her seemingly puffy appearance during a recent interview with Life & Style, in which she referred to herself as 'happy', insisting that she has 'been a sample size since the age of 16,' when she first began working on The O.C. The 21 year old has since been placed under involuntary psychiatric observation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre under Section 5150 by the California Welfare and Institutions Code. A sources told the New York Post, 'She's running out of money and can't find love, so now she is looking for a good time to escape her misery. She is on a downward spiral.' adding, 'She is a mess. She is a suicidal, uninsurable mess.' According to several reports, the fading model was apparently in the middle of a three day cocaine binge when friends called the police for help, fearing that she would attempt to take her own life if they didn't intervene. Mischa Barton hit the headlines two weeks ago after she was removed from the ladies bathroom at an exclusive celebrity-hotspot in London, after she attempted to bring a girlfriend into her toilet cubical, which is against club policy. The unforeseen drama meant that Mischa Barton missed the premier of her latest film, Homecoming, which has received mixed reviews. 'She is a tortured and troubled person. 'You can survive a bad review, but when you don't show up for the premiere of your new film, it's not a good sign of where your career is heading.' Perez Hilton has quoted one of her friends as saying. Her publicist, Craig Schneider, has released a statement confirming that Mischa Barton remains in hospital under doctors order's. Under Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, the authorities can hold a person for up to 72 hours if they believe that they present a danger to themselves or others. Mischa Barton was yesterday hospitalised after police responded to an urgent phone call made from the stars home at approximately 3pm. A patrol car arrived at the scene and began assisting the 21 year with a medical issue, a spokesperson for the LAPD confirmed.
