The hart-rending news comes just weeks before he was due to resurrect his pop career with a series of farewell concerts at London’s O2 arena, which sold out in record time.
The 50 year old was taken to the University of California medical centre in Los Angeles last night where he did not regain consciousness. His death was announced three hours later.
His father, Joe Jackson, had previously told online website TMZ ‘He is not doing well.’
The website was the first to report the 911call made to the emergency services at 12.21pm local time from his L.A mansion. Both ambulance and hospital staff tried to resuscitate him but Michael Jackson failed to respond.
Jermaine Jackson later told reporters, ‘My brother, the legendary King of Pop, passed away on Thursday June 25 at 2.26pm.
‘We believe he suffered a cardiac arrest at his home, however the cause of his death is unknown until the results of the autopsy are known. The personal physician who was with him at the time attempted to resuscitated him.’
During his time on earth he sold more than 750 million albums and was the proud owner of 13 Grammy awards. His signature vocals, dance moves, and the way he dressed have influenced pop culture throughout the world and he will sorely be missed.

The cause of Michael Jackson's sudden passing won't be known until a full autopsy has been carried out.
